Q&A: Palmira Muñiz of BIPOC Podcast Creators

Palmira C. Muniz - Any Pronouns

Welcome copywriter and social media strategist, Palmira C. Muniz, to the BIPOC Podcast Creators community! Palmira is a writer, comedian, producer, and educator who we had the pleasure of sitting down with for a mini Q&A sesh - Find out more about Palmira here!

BPC: What did you do before you joined the BIPOC Podcast Creator community? How did you get involved?

PM: Before I linked up with BPC, I worked in entertainment in Los Angeles as an assistant, producer, and media consultant, while doing sketch and stand up comedy, amongst other forms of entertainment. Once I started getting involved with podcasting, I was looking for more work in the medium and found Maribel’s information on the state film commission website, and she introduced me to the community.

BPC: What does being a copywriter and social media strategist entails? What did you do to prepare for this role?

PM: So essentially, a copywriter is a person who writes material, or copy, for a brand and a social media strategist comes up with materials to promote content for the brand; both jobs involve writing and editing copy to be shared publicly. Before I started working for BPC, I actually had to set time aside and teach myself the optics of copywriting and social media content, that was beyond the scope of writing that I already had - It took six months to prepare for a job like this! I studied things like, SEO, marketing strategies, copy in advertising, amongst other things revolving around marketing.

I also had to learn that writing for fictional narrative is way different than writing for marketing - there are rules set for each type of writing that often clash with one another but if you keep in mind that they have their own worlds, you can master each skill.

BPC: What is your experience with podcasting?

PM: I’m still pretty new to the podcasting world as a producer, but I’ve worked on my current show Cool Aunties, which I produce and host with fellow writer and comedian, Marie Soledad, where we discuss pop culture and interview up and coming creatives of color in the entertainment industry. I’ve also guest starred on podcasts such as Militantly Mixed, Dank and Deadly, and Women of Size Pod. As a listener, I am a fan of The Read, FANTI, Let’s Never Meet Again, Netflix and Kill, and Strong Black Lead.

BPC: What is your favorite aspect of podcasting?

PM: How podcasting connects all of us and is such an amazing way to collab with people, because once you record an episode with a colleague, you can tailor the messaging of the episode to promote yourself or your business ideas, anything you want! And it’s the perfect way to build attention to your brand.

BPC: What do you hope to bring into the BPC community?

PM: I hope to bring a different perspective into the BPC community, that is close to an even bigger group of creatives that may have never been aware of the BPC community, and to bring about unlikely collaborations that create an impact into the creative world, while being a helping hand to other creatives and podcasters.
