An Open Letter to the BIPOC Podcast Creators Community
Dear BIPOC Community,
For years, BIPOC Podcast Creators has been a space where creators of color could exist effortlessly, connect, learn, and thrive. Together, we’ve built something special: a community rooted in joy and the belief that our voices belong in every room where stories are told. And today, we want to talk to you about where we’re headed.
Let’s be real—our world is shifting and many of us feel we’re on shaky ground. The voices of creators of color, our voices, are as powerful as ever, but we’re facing challenges that demand us to show up even stronger. It’s not enough to exist in these spaces—we must help shape them. We must ensure that the media landscape, from podcasts to video, reflects our community's depth, brilliance, and authenticity.
That’s why we’re expanding our mission. We’re doubling down on what we do best—bringing you the networking and skill-building opportunities that help you grow while stepping into something bigger:
More Advocacy & Education: We’re putting media literacy, social justice, and the fight for diverse voices in media at the forefront. Because our work isn’t just about creating great content—it’s about ensuring that our stories and contributions matter today and 100 years from now. We’ll offer new resources, discussions, and learning opportunities to help you confidently navigate the ever-changing media landscape.
Elevating More Leaders in Media: Podcasting doesn’t exist in a vacuum. That’s why we’re expanding our focus to support creators shaping digital media as a whole—whether through audio or video. We’re here to uplift BIPOC leaders in podcasting and the broader media space.
Doubling Down on Joy: Our gatherings are always more than networking events—they are spaces for joy and solidarity. That will never change. We are committed to providing spaces where you can exist effortlessly, build with like-minded creators and support each other meaningfully.
Growing POC Leadership: We will advocate for more professionals of color in leadership roles within podcasting and media. The industry needs our voices at the table—not just as creators but as decision-makers. We especially need the voices of women of color in positions of authority at a time when the autonomy of women is being attacked.
A New Home for Our Community
In alignment with our values and vision, we will leave Meta (Facebook & Instagram) and X (formerly Twitter). These platforms cannot serve the future we envision, and we are intentionally searching for a new digital space where our community can grow and thrive.
Effective February 28th, our Facebook group will officially close for good. Our new home will be announced soon, along with updated social media platforms where you can continue to connect with us.
In the meantime, make sure you're signed up for our newsletter to stay in the loop and be the first to know about where we’re headed next.
Finally, as part of our commitment to supporting BIPOC-led businesses, we’re offering complimentary membership to the BIPOC Podcast Creators Business Directory for all of 2025 to small businesses that meet our criteria. You must apply by March 31st, to be considered. Use coupon code: JTN43.
Your Voice is Needed Now More Than Ever
If there’s one thing we want you to take away from this, it’s this: keep creating. The world needs your voice. The industry needs your vision. And no matter what changes, our commitment to you remains the same—BIPOC Podcast Creators will always be a space where you can show up as your whole self, build community, and share your brilliance effortlessly and joyfully.
This is more than a shift—it’s a call to action. We are resisting oppression not just by speaking out but by taking up space and by thriving.
So, what’s next? That’s up to us. Let’s continue to learn, grow, and create—fearlessly.
In solidarity,
Tangia R. Al-awaji Estrada and Maribel Quezada Smith
