Audio Flavor Socials build the BIPOC creator community one city at a time.

Last week podcasters, digital creators, and local business owners braved the Denver rain to converge and network in the first-ever BIPOC Podcast Creators “Audio Flavor Social”.

The event was attended by both local and visiting people of color (and allies) across the gender spectrum who were excited to share stories, ideas and learn from some of Denver’s very own podcasting success stories.

“There are so few spaces in media where BIPOC folks can get together, relax, have good food, a good time and maybe learn something along the way, especially in the city of Denver.” Said co-founder and host of the event, Tangia Renee Estrada. “This Audio Flavor Social is the culmination of BIPOC Podcast Creators achieving a big piece of its mission in creating that space for people of color in the industry.”

Although the rain delayed some of the attendees, it was a packed house by the time the DJ turned up the beats at the Denver Community Media Center, where the staff came together to receive us with open arms.

It was my first time in Denver and I felt incredibly grateful to be welcomed by the community. Given that this was our first Audio Flavor Social, we were not exactly sure what to expect. I would be lying if I didn’t say that I was apprehensive about whether or not the folks in Denver would like or appreciate the setting. But they sure came out for it!

Since establishing BIPOC Podcast Creators in 2021, we have been talking about creating more spaces & opportunities for BIPOC folks to exist in effortlessly, and the tickets selling out was confirmation that people need and want more of this.

From early adopters to seasoned radio folks, and even podcasting rookies, our Denver Audio Flavor Social brought together people who are helping to shape not only the future of podcasting, but the future of media.

“It was great to hear from seasoned creators, and hear from different perspectives,” said Alan Castillo, attendee and Business Development Director at Panamericana Media. “Not only the beauty of being a creator but the challenges and the opportunities.”

Attendees enjoyed some locally made Mexican appetizers, paired with refreshing wine and beer, while they mingled. The vibe was inviting among the attendees who were also excited to participate in a special curated listening experience led by Anna DeShawn from The Qube. Through very cool looking wireless headphones, we all listened to trailers from shows like The Head Nod, Queer News and The Pulso Podcast, while discussing the creative process along the way.

After the intimate listening experience, we welcomed everyone to the DCM video studio for a panel discussion with some amazing Denver podcasters and creators. Among them were producer, Julius Hinton, and award-winning creators, Michelle Jackson and Denise Soler Cox. The panel was recorded and streamed live on DCM’s Facebook page.

Before leaving, creators were invited to pitch their podcast idea inside of the beautifully equipped podcasting studio, for an opportunity to win a year-long production membership at Denver Community Media and a one-hour consultation with BIPOC Podcast Creators.

Overall, the evening was a success! But we couldn’t have made this all possible without the kind support of our partners, Denver Community Media, RSS.com and The Qube.

“It was so much fun, loved the flow of the night, the food, panel, and the networking! Met amazing people and I left feeling inspired.” Otisa Eads, attendee and HR Systems Strategist Consultant.

I felt the same way, Otisa! We can’t wait to do this again in Phoenix, AZ on October 26th!
